...today. A bit beaten up, with a strong smell of a rich-running engine. An old guy stepped out and smoked a cigar. What a badass. I almost wanted to get off my bike and tell him to keep on Carlo-in'.

Dear 80s American car haters.... THESE THINGS AREN'T TRYING TO HANDLE WELL. They ride like they do because they are big, spacious, smooth, cheap and comfortable. The era of truly American style cars basically died with these. They aren't supposed to be able to corner, they are built to float down the highway at 75mph forever, blasting hair metal, looking like something both murderous and elegant, rumbling V8 burble, with no regard for what them fruity europeans thought. American cars like this sold so well because they were really good at what they were supposed to do, get you to where you needed to go reliably, comfortably, and cheaply. Plus, they were easy to make fast.

I love the G platform. Simple, sexy and diverse.

Used to own a 76. With the swivel chairs. I modded the shit out of that thing - it was my grad school car.

Agreed. When I was around 10 I saw a Monte Carlo SS for the first time and said that was what I wanted someday. I got my '87 SS on Christmas when I was 16 and still have it 20 years later in perfect condition. While Corvettes are my dream car, the G-body cars will always be my passion. We all need something quirky we love for no good reason other than we saw one when we were young and it struck a cord in us.

That is the exact reason I love Saabs. Quirky and different is exactly why my first car was a 900 Turbo. My Dad, for the first two months I had it, questioned my purchase every time he had the chance. Then, he drove it and figured it out. It finally broke beyond repair, so I replaced it with a 900s.

Some years and many cars later (including a sweet 87 Regal) I bought my current 9-5 Aero, the car I wished I could have afforded when I bought my first 900 those years before, with every option I wanted, other than color. My Dad was the first one I let drive it. He had one within months.
